How You Met: We went to high school together. We did not know each other well at the time, but Jason’s brother and my (Lauryn’s) sister are high school sweethearts. Once they were engaged and married in June 2015, we started seeing each other more often, usually spending time with each other at Iron Bowl parties (He’s an Auburn grad; I’m an Alabama grad). He asked me to come with him to Mobile for a Mardi Gras ball as a friend in February 2017. We talked the entire time on the drive and bonded over our love of music. We spent the weekend with his family and went to the ball that Saturday, where he kissed me. We have been together ever since!

The Proposal: Our first actual date was to get a beer and burgers a couple weeks after Mardi Gras. I think we were both worried it was going to be awkward, but we ended up staying at the restaurant until it closed. When he took me home, I invited him in and we talked for several more hours in the kitchen. We had to force our conversation to end about 1 a.m. as we had work the next day. When the time came for him to ask me to marry him, he went by my parents’ house to talk to my dad and get my parents’ blessing. Prior to asking, he had gotten a ring and told no one else. Soon after, he came to pick me up to go to Trader Joe’s because we were planning to cook together before watching the Auburn-Georgia game. The cashier made an off-hand comment about how we must be keeping our groceries separate in the cart until Jason “put a ring on it.” When we got back to my house, I noticed that he wasn’t really helping me unload the groceries from their bags as usual. I had a pizza stone in one hand when he grabbed the other and started saying a lot of really sweet things to me. When he got down on one knee, he used my full name to pop the question and slipped my ring on my finger after I said “yes.”
